The Nature of Water (DVD) was created to increase environmental knowledge and water stewardship in Southeast Asian communities in Minneapolis. The DVD content is presented in five spoken languages and two written languages. The audio tracks are in Hmong, Lao, Khmer (Cambodia), Viet (Vietnam), and English, and subtitles are in Hmong and English.
The video includes a 12-minute main feature and twelve bonus features about raingardens, household hazardous waste, watersheds and more. The Mayor of Minneapolis, R. T. Rybak, makes a special appearance to talk about the source and quality of Minneapolis' drinking water.
The DVD is a direct result of the efforts of the MWMO and the City of Minneapolis to better understand how diverse communities access and share information, and how to start a conversation about water quality relevant to their worldview and life priorities.
About the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization
The Mississippi Watershed Management Organization is one of about three dozen watershed organizations in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. Its boundaries include the Mississippi River as it runs through Minneapolis, as well as the land that drains to the river. The MWMO contains portions of the cities of Lauderdale, Minneapolis, St. Anthony, and St. Paul. The final member of the MWMO is the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.
