The Sierra Club is committed to promoting the responsible use of Earth's resources and ecosystems and educating and engaging the public to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment. In the past, Sierra Club volunteers have been effective in protecting wetlands, purchasing parklands, winning environmental review, and much more.

In 2003, the Sierra club prioritized four specific areas of concern. These areas include: forestry, clean air, clean water, and urban sprawl/open space.
