Description:

Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center is a regional center for environmental education and outdoor recreation serving primarily west central and southwestern Minnesota. Prairie Woods is located on 500 acres in a beautiful prairie woods transition zone in Kandiyohi County approximately 100 miles west of Mpls./St.Paul. The site features rolling glacial terrain, prairie, wetlands, ponds and hardwood forest.

Prairie Woods offers primarily day use programs but multi-day programs are available in collaboration with two local camps within a 10 minute drive. Popular outreach programs include the Youth Energy Summit (YES!) offered in cooperation with Southwest Initiative Foundation and the Prairie Ecology Bus Center; and Project Eco-Voyageur.

Prairie Woods is ideally located in an area rich in agricultural and renewable energy resources and offers a broad range of programs designed to help people live well with self, others and the environment. The site features 10k of groomed xc ski trails, beautiful classroom and meeting facilities, an extensive challenge course, a sporting clays and educational shooting sports facility, a pioneer log cabin, an indoor climbing wall and a variety of wind, solar and biomass technologies.

Prairie Woods is nearing a goal of 100 percent renewable energy use by the close of 2010.
