Mississippi Headwaters Forest Steward Booklet: Harvesting Your Woodlot and Protecting Your Shoreline
Post Date: September 11, 2019
Resource Type:
  • short PDF
Description:

Using great photos and drawings, this booklet teaches the basic concepts of managing woodlots located on shorelands while protecting values such as aesthetics, water quality and wildlife habitat. It is designed specifically for individuals whose woodlots border the Mississippi River in northern Minnesota, but these concepts can be applied to shorelands throughout Minnesota.

The guidelines in the booklet list the 10 forest types found in the Mississippi Headwaters region. The guidelines suggest how harvest and regeneration of each forest type can be managed to promote wildlife habitat, protect the view, and retain desired water quality. The Mississippi Headwaters Board believes that anyone interested in forests and wildlife issues will find interesting information in this booklet.
