The Governor' s Sustainable Development Initiative was launched in 1993 by Governor Arne H. Carlson, the Environmental Quality Board and the Commissioner of Trade and Economic Development. The initiative seeked to provide an ongoing collaboration between business, government and civic interests dedicated to promoting Minnesota 's long-term environmental, economic and social well-being. The Environmental Quality Board administered the Sustainable Development Initiative.
The Minnesota Sustainable Development Initiative was based on the common-sense belief that if Minnesota's prosperity is to be sustained over time, what is good for business, the environment and communities must eventually become one and the same. This is the essential challenge of sustainable development.
Although the Sustainable Development Initiative was discontinued in 2002, the group produced over 20 informational documents that are still useful today. To access these documents, visit http://www.eqb.state.mn.us/Resources.html?Team=Sustainable.
