Description:

Covers an area of about 4 million acres in northeastern Minnesota, ranging
from 47 to 48 degrees N latitude and from 92 to 94 degrees W longitude
(includes all or part of 5 counties). Provides essential information for
broad planning, such as determining areas suitable for various crops to enable processors to locate plants in areas of greatest potential;
determining an area's potential for various types of farming, forestry or
recreation; locating sources of sand and gravel; preparing wildlife density
maps; locating pulp and lumber mills in areas of greatest potential supply; and
locating feasible routes for utility lines and highways. (More detailed soil
surveys should be used for specific planning of individual farms, cities,
recreation areas, tax equalization and road building.) 19 tables describe
features of soil landscapes in the Hibbing Sheet's geomorphic areas.
Discusses development of landforms, climate, forestry and recreation of the
area. 16 color photos. Separate color map shows the Hibbing
Sheet's geomorphic areas and soil landscapes. For engineers, planners,
development agencies, government personnel, businesses and industries, and
junior high, high school and college science teachers.
