The Council now performs the roles previously carried out by four regional agencies (Council, Regional Transit Board, Metropolitan Transit Commission and the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission).
Council Members--Members are appointed by the governor, with 16 members representing metropolitan districts of equal population. The 17th member is the chair. The chair and the members serve at the governor's pleasure.
