Luther Crest's Environmental Program began in 1983 as the Lake Carlos Environmental Center. In 2007, the program was renamed Grounded In to better reflect the philosophy and programs we offer to both public and Christian schools, as well as local youth organizations, church groups and businesses.
Luther Crest is an ACA accredited camp with over 30 years of experience educating public and private K-12 youth and adults in a unique outdoor setting. While engaging, investigating and appreciating the intricate and interconnected natural world, we are also devoted to maintaining a safe learning environment as well. Luther Crest includes ecological stewardship and environmental awareness as central to our overall ministry philosophy.
Located 7.5 miles north of Alexandria on the shore of Lake Carlos, habitats found on the 96 acres include Maple-Basswood Forest, restored prairie, wetland, and lake shore. Programs are available for all ages, using these habitats, as well as offering cross country skiing, snowshoeing, orienteering, canoeing, low ropes course, and camping instruction.
With only one school in residence at a time, the program is customized, focusing on specific curriculum and schedule that fits the needs and wishes of the individual school. With housing for up to 200 people year round, the Center provides a quality residential program for over 30 schools each year. A unique offering for parochial and private schools is a Christian emphasis in the program, which may be included upon request.
The Center provides instructors, classroom visits, and post trip materials.
