Description:

What is NGS Kids Network?

NGS Kids Network is an Internet-based science curriculum that meets national standards and brings collaborative learning into the classroom. In each curriculum unit students gather data, record and analyze the data, and send letters and their results to the NGS Kids Network database for other students to read and share. In addition to the Web site, classes will use the following components:

  • The free NGS Works Web software is an integral part of NGS Kids Network. It allows students to write letters to each other, analyze data, create maps and graphs, and illustrate their work.
  • Each NGS Kids Network curriculum unit includes 12-15 sessions, which can be conducted successively over a several-week period or done selectively based on the content. Each has a detailed teacher's guide with student activity sheets, assessments, and correlations to the U.S. national standards for science, geography, and language arts.
  • The NGS Kids Network Test Kit is prepackaged with the materials needed to conduct the primary experiments in the units.

What's been added in the most recent (2004) version of Kids Network?

  • Web-based activities
  • Science-literacy activities that incorporate the language arts standards in addition to science and geography standards

    What's changed?

  • No time limits. (You conduct the class activities anytime-on your schedule.)
  • No charge for membership. (The Web site is available to all teachers.)

    About What's in Our Water?
In the What's in Our Water? unit, you will investigate water pollution. You will discover how rainwater travels through a watershed and how pollutants can get into groundwater. You will find out where their tap water comes from, and you will learn that human activity and water quality are closely connected.
