Headwaters Science Center (HSC) belongs to the Bemidji community and Northwestern Minnesota, and as such, we strive to offer unique learning experiences and stimulate curiosity in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). HSC was founded in 1994 by a group of dedicated community members who saw the need for science learning outside of a school setting. HSC is a 501(c)3 organization with a mission "to provide intellectual stimulation and enjoyment children, adults, and educational organizations in northern Minnesota using hands-on science and technology exhibits and programs." HSC uses interactive exhibits, engaging activities, and dynamic presentations to introduce visitors to basic science concepts.
HSC programs are designed to engage and inspire audiences and include Tots-N-Science, a weekly preschool program for children and their caregivers, Science Club, a weekly after school program for children and youth, Summer Camps that range from photography to robots, Girl Scout overnight experiences, Science After Dark for adults, Saturday Science programs, professional development for educators, and Raptor, Cryogenics, Combustion, Animal, and Physics Demonstrations.
We also feature a 7,500 sq. ft exhibit floor with over 40 interactive exhibit features and live animals. In addition, HSC belongs to the nano-scale focused, national NISE Network, hosted by the Museum of Science-Boston, and was a 2012-2013 partner museum in the Portal to the Public (POP) Network, hosted by the Pacific Science Center in Seattle.
