Gardening Matters is an organization dedicated to the advancement of sustainable community gardens throughout the Twin Cities and Minnesota. Gardening Matters connects community gardeners to each other, to their communities, and to the resources they need to be successful.
Established in 2008, Gardening Matters is the realization of the 2005 Sustainability Plan which recommended an organization dedicated to community gardening that would act as a clearinghouse of information and resources and help gardeners develop well-functioning garden organizations.
Gardening Matters offers monthly learning opportunities for new and current community gardeners, and coordinates two metr-owide annual events: the Community Garden Spring Resource Fair, the Parade of Community Gardens. We maintain a Garden Database, where we collect information about community gardens from our Garden Survey. With this information, we maintain an online Community Garden Directory Map, and help people find a garden to join or connect with another community gardener as they start a new one. In addition, we moderate a listserv, COMGAR, for community gardeners and increasingly, backyard and market gardeners, with over 740 people on it at this time. Lastly, we are a one-stop shop and a resource for community gardeners no matter the issue they are facing or questions that they have.
