Spend your summer teaching kids about one of Minnesota’s most popular animals – the gray wolf. The Wildlife Science Center is looking for interns to assist with Wolves and Wildlife Camp and other education programs for the summer of 2022.
The Wildlife Science Center is located in Stacy, Minnesota, just 40 minutes north of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Educational opportunities concentrate on the Wildlife Science Center’s resident wildlife including wolves, mountain lions, black bears, coyotes, Canada lynx, red and gray foxes, bobcats, porcupine, reptiles, and raptors.
The Wildlife Science Center:
- Provides education programs to 20,000 – 25,000 people annually.
- Conducts and assists in research involving wolf physiology, behavior, reproduction, genetics and more.
- Trains both student and professional biologists alike through wildlife handling courses provided four times annually.
- Assists in the conservation of endangered red and Mexican gray wolves and other subspecies of gray wolf.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise all Wolves and Wildlife Camp participants during the week-long day camp sessions.
- Ensure safety of all Wolves and Wildlife Camp participants.
- Develop and conduct programs and assist staff with Wolves and Wildlife Camp, onsite and offsite education programs, Wolf Howl Bonfires, and Overnight Programs.
- Maintain and update educational/ informational displays in the Wildlife Science Center’s education building.
- Provide logistical support for onsite and offsite programs and Wolves and Wildlife Camp.
- Assist with maintenance and security of facility and grounds.
Qualifications:
- The internship position is available to undergraduate or graduate students preferably interested in natural resources, education, and wildlife. Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of employment.
- Ability to commit from June 2022 – August 2022
- COVID 19 Vaccinated or willing to become vaccinated
- Interest and enthusiasm for working outdoors and with learners of all ages.
- First Aid and CPR certification a plus
