SEASONAL LANDSCAPE RESTORATION DESIGN TECHNICIAN POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
LOCATION: Washington Conservation District – Oakdale, MN
CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal Technician
SALARY RANGE: $17-$20/hr DOQ HOURS: 40-hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.

The Washington Conservation District (WCD) seeks a self-motivated individual to assist with the promotion, design, and implementation of best management practices (BMP), water quality improvements, landscape restoration, natural resource planning, and habitat management related projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
• Conduct site visits with residents to promote conservation practices and projects.
• Support designing and implementing stormwater management, habitat restoration, and other projects.
• Support monitoring past projects for functionality and update BMP database.
• Assisting with educational programs and reports, press releases, web updates, and newsletter articles.
• Assist with water quality monitoring as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will possess, or be actively pursuing a degree in landscape architecture, natural resources, or related degree in the environmental field. Interest and some BMP design and installation experience, including stormwater management BMPs and landscape restoration. Successful project management experience and attention to detail are critical. Qualified applicants will be self-motivated, able to show a commitment to high quality work, and complete projects on schedule while dealing with diverse audiences. Effective communication skills, are very important. Good computer skills are needed. Must have valid driver's license, good driving record, and personal vehicle to use as needed (mileage reimbursed).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: An advanced degree or work towards an advanced degree in a directly related field is desirable. Native and invasive plant species and community identification and knowledge. Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and image processing programs. Experience with page layout and design software including Microsoft Office suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCad, or Vectorworks. Knowledge of conservation planning and land protection programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves 50% indoor work with regular outdoor activities. Position changes lifting, pushing, and pulling requirement up to 50 pounds on a regular basis; exposures not limited to heat and wet conditions. Frequent interruptions and diverse daily activities. Equipment used includes general office and education equipment including telephone, computer, copier, LCD projector and fax machine as well as field equipment such as survey units, GPS equipment, soil augers, and shovels.
SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Finalists for the interview process will be determined after initial screening and assessment of relevant qualifications and experience. Applicant(s) selected for the interview process will be contacted directly by the Washington Conservation District. Candidates selected for interviews will be asked to provide a sample of work/portfolio.
