CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal Technician (No Benefits)
STATUS: Seasonal, Non-exempt
STARTING SALARY: $15-$17/hr, DOQ
HOURS/DAYS: Normal business hours (up to 40 hours per week)
TERM: 2022 Construction Season (Spring-Fall)
The Washington Conservation District seeks a self-motivated individual to assist with the inspection of
permitted construction sites, with regard to required erosion and sediment control (ESC) practices,
primarily in the cities of Woodbury and Cottage Grove, Minnesota.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Conducting construction site ESC inspections.
• Documenting site conditions, and preparing and distributing ESC inspection reports.
• Communicating and/or meeting with site contacts to resolve ESC issues.
• Successful applicants will be provided on the job and professional training to perform duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will possess, or be actively pursuing, a bachelor’s
degree in Biology, Hydrology, Limnology, Water Resources, Environmental Science, Environmental
Engineering, or related natural resources field. Must have the ability to walk long distances on uneven
terrain associated with construction sites and be willing to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
Must be detail-oriented, be able to work independently, and have strong communication skills to resolve
ESC issues. Must be proficient with various computer software, including spreadsheet and database
programs. Must have a valid driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with the Minnesota General Permit for Construction
Stormwater. Be certified or be able to be certified by the University of Minnesota’s Erosion and
Stormwater Management Certification Program (Construction Installer or more advanced). Experience
with ESRI ArcGIS Online or other ESRI ArcGIS products. Experience reading construction plans.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves office (10-20%) and outside fieldwork (80-90%). Frequent position
changes; significant driving time; exposures not limited to heat, cold, dust, and wet conditions; the use of the
senses of sight and smell are necessary for this work. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, general
office equipment including computers, printers, and telephone, and field equipment such as vehicles,
cameras, and tablets. Applicants will be reimbursed for mileage when using a personal vehicles.
