Job Description

Gain valuable experience and have fun as a contributing member of the staff at Prairie Woods ELC, in scenic Spicer, Minnesota. Prairie Woods is a dynamic organization with a creative, dedicated staff. A Prairie Woods internship offers diverse experiences in environmental education, a challenge course, and outdoor recreation, as well as connections with a community of educators who support your learning process.

 

Duties may include:

  • Assist with and deliver programs to diverse groups, pre-school through adult.
  • Assist with and lead environmental education. Classes on Mammals, Pond, Insects.
  • Facilitate activities on the Challenge Course. Such as high events, climbing walls, and numerous teambuilding activities.
  • Teach and supervise recreation activities. Including canoeing, orienteering, and geo-caching.
  • Assist with and lead history programs at the Pioneer Cabin.
  • Assist with Shooting Sports programs and archery.
  • Assist with materials, equipment, curriculum, and background research.
  • Assist with trail work and stewardship of building & grounds.
  • Complete special project(s) based on personal interests and skills.

 

Desired qualifications:

  • At least one year of college or university study in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • Love of the outdoors, and sharing the outdoors with others.
  • Knowledge of nature and awareness of environmental issues.
  • Ability to do physically strenuous outdoor activities.Spring/Summer 2020 internships now open.This is an unpaid internship

    -Housing and additional paid work may be possible
