Natural Resources Seasonal

Wild Rivers Conservancy of the St. Croix & Namekagon is recruiting for a Natural Resources Seasonal position during the summer of 2023. Wild Rivers Conservancy,  www.wildriversconservancy.org,​ is the official nonprofit partner of the St.Croix National Scenic Riverway. We inspire stewardship to forever ensure the rare ecological integrity of the St. Croix and Namekagon Riverway. Someone that enjoys working with people and has the technical expertise to protect and restore natural resources, while working in a fun and collaborative atmosphere, will find this an appealing position. This position will be for 6 months beginning May 22nd, 2023.

 

Position Summary

The Natural Resources Seasonal position is responsible for assisting with efforts to protect and restore natural resources in the St. Croix watershed primarily through monitoring and management activities along with and education and outreach. The majority of the work will be performed in the field with some office work for data analysis and reporting activities. This person will work closely with the Conservancy’s Natural Resources Manager, National Park Service resource professionals, and other agencies.

 

Core Functions

  • Assist the Conservancy and National Park Service natural resources teams with native species surveys, water quality monitoring, and restoration projects
  • Monitor and manage terrestrial and aquatic invasive species along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and throughout the watershed
  • Distribute and assist in the creation of educational and outreach materials at community events, trainings, booths, and webinars
  • Assist the education and outreach team with curriculum delivery for the Rivers Are Alive youth program
  • Work with the Riverway Volunteer program and staff in assisting with hosting and delivering natural resources volunteer opportunities to the general public
  • Assist with the delivery of landowner and professional continuing education workshops and programs
  • Assist with GIS analysis and creation of maps for landscape prioritization, management planning, and landowner outreach tracking
  • Perform data entry and assist with project reporting
  • Educate key river user groups, including boaters and river-based businesses, on invasive species threats and prevention strategies
  • Work with diverse partners including local, state, and federal government agencies and nonprofit organizations throughout the watershed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident of the United States with a valid state driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Recent graduate with coursework in biology, natural resources, or a related field and/or relevant work experience in natural resources, with ArcGIS knowledge
  • General knowledge of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway is helpful
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team, be detail-oriented and organized, and ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to work with a flexible and changing schedule; must be able to work some long days, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds independently and up to 50 pounds with assistance.

This is a temporary, full-time position ranging from 32-40 hours weekly for a period of six months at a wage of $16/hr. The office is based in the picturesque river town of Osceola, Wisconsin. Night and weekend work may be required; start date flexible upon prior approval.
