LOWER ST. CROIX AG OUTREACH SPECIALIST
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
LOCATION: North Branch or Oakdale, MN. Regional travel required.
CLASSIFICATION: Specialist STATUS: Full-time regular position STARTING SALARY RANGE: $65,000-$75,000/yr
HOURS/DAYS: 40 hrs/week, including some evenings and weekends BENEFITS: Full benefits package
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate research-based, educational programs that advance the agricultural priorities in the Lower St. Croix Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan. (50%)
- Identify educational needs and audiences;
- Design curricula and materials (e.g., newsletters, fact sheets, articles, blog posts, and videos);
- Plan, advertise, and implement workshops, field days, and other activities;
- Evaluate the impact of this work and how it may need to change in the future; and
- Develop and obtain educational materials/displays and track materials budget.
- Collaborate with technical staff to provide information on agronomic, agricultural production, water quality protection, and soil health topics to farmers, crop advisors, and partner organizations in the Lower St. Croix basin. (20%)
- Support the coordination and promotion of demonstration plots that facilitate implementation of science-based, effective, economically viable practices that advance the goals of the Lower St. Croix Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan. (10%)
- Coordinate and facilitate farmer-led initiatives and similar activities to advance the long-term goals of the Lower St. Croix Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan. (10%)
- Participate in team meetings and serve on committees and boards. (10%)
- Throughout this work, collaborate with new, diverse, and historically underserved audiences to develop programs that are customized to the needs of different cultural communities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two-year degree in ag communications, soil science, agronomy, natural resources, or other related field; or any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Strong farming background, with an understanding of agricultural practices in our region.
- An understanding of basic agronomic and agricultural economic principles.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and capable of working with a wide variety of people.
- Able to learn quickly, follow instructions, handle multiple projects, and adapt to changing job duties and/or responsibilities.
- Able to work independently or as part of a team with multiple district staff and other government agencies and organizations.
- Demonstrated abilities to develop and maintain effective working relationships as well as promotion of water quality protection practices in agricultural areas.
- Self-motivated, able to show a commitment to high quality work, attention to detail, and time management to complete projects on schedule.
- Must have valid driver's license and good driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Four years of demonstrated soil health experience.
- Four-year or advanced degree.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is ~50% indoor work, with frequent off-site meetings and events within Washington and Chisago, as well as portions of Anoka, Isanti, Pine and Ramsey Counties. A typical workweek includes a mix of computer work (writing, graphic design, web update, etc.), in-person and online meetings, and off-site workshops, events and activities. Outdoor events are most common during the spring, summer and fall. Office equipment used includes phone, computer, printer/copier, and LCD projector. The educator should also be prepared to gather, transport, and load/unload displays and education materials on a regular basis. Must be physically able and willing to work in varied terrain and weather conditions, and capable of lifting 50 lbs.
