The Interpretive Naturalist plays a key role in promoting the Anoka County park system which offers over 11,500 acres of open space including regional and county parks, special use facilities, and a unique mix of recreational opportunities.
This part-time, non-exempt position is located at the Wargo Nature Center.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Coordinate, implement and promote environmental education and recreational programs to schools and other community organizations.
- Work with summer day camp programs, school break programs, home school, pre-school, and Naturalist in Schools programs.
- Curriculum development of and staff training for educational programs.
- Act as a presenter for the Heritage Lab and Wildlife Outreach Programs.
- Create and implement innovative and exciting weekend public programs and coordinated displays.
- Teach outdoor recreational activities such as kayaking, canoeing, team building, and cross country skiing.
- Provide animal and reptile care.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, science, or related field.
- 6 months (1,040 hours) of experience in developing and delivering environmental education and recreational programs at either residential or day use environmental education centers.
- 6 months (1,040 hour) experience in day camp programming.
- Work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Successfully pass a criminal history and driver's license background check.
Knowledge of:
- Environmental education and recreational program development.
- Outdoor recreational activities such as such as kayaking, canoeing, team building, and cross country skiing.
Skill in:
- Creating indoor and outdoor displays.
- Working with diverse groups of people.
Ability to:
- Organize projects and displays.
- Work both independently and as part of a team.
- Keep detailed records.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
Work Environment:
- Working conditions include working outdoors in all types of weather. Work schedule can include weekends, evenings and/or holidays.

2020 full salary range: $19.10 to $28.93 per hour. Career potential up to $31.77 per hour.

Part-time; 14 hours per week.
Work schedule includes some evenings and weekends.
Schedule may vary based on business needs and at supervisor discretion.
