Job Posting for:  Healthcare Provider

Location:              Camp Bovey – Residential Summer Camp in Gordon, WI

Reports to:          Camp Bovey Director

Status:                  Seasonal, Full-time, June 29 – August 14, Typically Saturday and Sunday off, but   schedule varies

Broad Scope and Function of Job:

The Health Care Provider is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff. Abide by American Camp Association and Wisconsin Department of Health standards for medical storage and dispersal. Assist with other camper well-being tasks such as routine first aid. Provide 24-hour health and well-being care for campers throughout the camp session.  In addition, this position requires experience working with children in settings that may be new or uncomfortable to them. This individual must be willing to actively participate in and promote a positive camp culture that helps fulfill the camp’s mission.

Purpose and Core Values:

The purpose of Camp Bovey is to provide fun and encouraging outdoor experiences that ignite curiosity, create connections, and grow confidence. Our core values are Caring, Sharing, Curiosity, and Connection.

 Responsibilities:

  • Provide health care to meet individual needs of staff and campers including: organize and disperse medication to campers and staff as needed throughout the day, respond as needed to medical needs of campers and staff continuously throughout the day, and continuously work with emergency prevention at the forefront of all activities.
  • Manage, store, and distribute medications (both Rx and over the counter). Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp.
  • Contribute to the emotional and mental well-being of campers and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state and American Camp Association Standards.
  • Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources and medical equipment for serving the health and medical needs of the campers and staff.
  • Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies.
  • Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout camp including camp vehicles, kitchen, offices, waterfront, activity areas, out-of-camp trips.

Qualifications:

Education

  • This position requires one of the following certifications: EMT-P, EMT-I, EMT, EMR, CNA or WFR with med-passing certificate, or LPN or RN (must be licensed in the state of Wisconsin or able to obtain WI License).
  • Possess current professional CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Possess current med-passing certificate

Experience

  • Documented work experience for a minimum of 3 months utilizing required certifications
  • Completed three years of work experience beyond high school
  • Documented experience with both children and adult illness/injury care
  • Be equipped to handle medical needs typical in camp settings independently or sufficiently until advanced medical care (within 15 minutes away) can arrive.
  • Possess knowledge and experience managing outdoor related medical concerns (dehydration, heat exhaustion, joint/ligament damage, poison ivy, minor burns, tick removal, swimmer’s ear, etc.)
  • Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters.
  • Previous camp experience (preferred)
  • Experience working with diverse youth who may not need physical medical attention, but mental/emotional support (preferred)
