Job Description

LOCATION: Washington Conservation District - Oakdale, MN
CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal Technician – Up to eight vacancies are available
SALARY RANGE: $14-$15/hr DOQ
HOURS: Up to 40-hours per week – Requires early morning, evening, and weekend work
STATUS: Seasonal, non-exempt
TERM: Boating Season 2020
The Washington Conservation District (WCD) in collaboration with Washington County and other partners seeks self-motivated individuals to provide watercraft inspections to prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) in Washington County, Minnesota.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Serves as a Level 1 watercraft inspector at assigned inspection stations;
 Interviews watercraft owners and performs watercraft inspections;
 Educates launch users about the importance of AIS prevention;
 Attends and completes DNR training to become an authorized inspector
 Maintains daily inspection reports and data entry;
 Performs light access maintenance during slow boat use periods
 Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will possess, or be actively pursuing, an associate’s degree or have two years of relevant experience in communications, education, law enforcement, biology, water resources, soil science, or related natural resources field. Must be proficient in verbal and written skills and possess the ability to work independently. Must have good computer skills. Must have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle available for use.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will possess, or be actively pursuing, a bachelor’s degree in water resources, soil science, or related natural resources field. Have experience in environmental education. Previous customer service experience and/or working with the public preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves mostly outside field work (95%). Long duration standing. Frequent position changes; lifting, pushing, and pulling requirement more than 50 pounds on an infrequent basis; exposures not limited to heat, cold, and wet conditions; and use of the senses of sight and smell are necessary in this work.
SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Finalists for the interview process will be determined after initial screening and assessment of relevant qualifications and experience. Applicant(s) selected for the interview process will be contacted directly by the Washington Conservation District.
