This report was prepared by the National EE Advisory Council as directed by the U.S. Congress under the National Environmental Education Act. The report discusses why EE is critical to our daily lives by helping to protect human health, advance quality education, and promote sustainable development. The report also indicates that although citizens are concerned about the environment and the demand for EE in our schools and communities is high, the public presently lacks sufficient knowledge and skills to implement the kinds of solutions needed to address today's environmental challenges. To address the many challenges facing the EE field, the report makes specific recommendations for state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and others.
