As part of its mission to build and sustain vibrant communities, Keep America Beautiful (KAB) has several initiatives aimed at expanding and improving the effectiveness of public space recycling programs, also referred to as recycling on the go ("ROGO").
KAB works with corporate sponsors to place recycling bins in public spaces including parks, schools, streetscapes, fairs, venues, colleges, and special events. In addition to expanding recycling infrastructure to increase convenience, KAB is committed to staying on the cutting edge of social science research as it relates to recycling and believes in a data-driven approach to increasing recycling participation. Through research projects, best practice guides and other technical initiatives, KAB is working to understand what motivates recycling behavior and leads to increased recovery, and then disseminate this information to local communities implementing public space recycling programs.
KAB has developed several public space recycling resources. These resources range from:
1). A complete guide for designing a successful public space recycling program
2). A real time map of public space recycling bins
3). Case studies
4). Archived webinars on public space recycling
5). Public space recycling bin grant opportunities.
