The Pezuta Zizi Learning Center organization consists of a group of volunteers based at Upper Sioux Agency State Park, 8 miles SE of Granite Falls. It was incorporated in 1994 as a non-profit organization with Prairie Country Resource, Conservation & Development Council as its fiscal agent.
Our mission is to assist people of all ages in developing a connection to the Earth, so that they make the best possible decisions affecting the environment. One of our five main purposes is to assist the Dakota People in sharing their culture, especially as it relates to the environment. The name of our organization, Pezuta Zizi, is the Dakota name for Yellow Medicine.
We provide a yearly water education/testing program for our local 5th/6th grade students. Several grants have been written in order to offer Dakota Cultural Sharing programs for the local elementary students and the general public. We have equipment available to loan to groups/individuals including: binoculars, field guides, compasses, snowshoes, water testing equipment, prairie trunks full of a wide variety of educational materials, and much more!
