The Minnesota Technical Assistance Program (MnTAP) is an assistance and outreach program at the University of Minnesota that helps Minnesota businesses develop and implement industry-tailored solutions that prevent pollution at the source, maximize efficient use of resources, and reduce energy use and costs to improve public health and the environment.
MnTAP staff members provide industry-tailored technical assistance. By reducing waste and increasing efficiency, you can save on disposal and raw material costs and decrease regulatory compliance burdens. You also will create healthier and safer working conditions for your employees.
Established in 1984, MnTAP is funded primarily by a pass-through grant from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health Sciences. As part of the University, MnTAP has no regulatory responsibilities or obligations.
MnTAP Intern Program
The intern program pairs your facility with a college student who can research and recommend energy efficiency and pollution prevention solutions. MnTAP recruits, hires, and pays the interns who work full-time for 13 weeks. Interns gain hands-on experience while helping you reduce waste and conserve resources. Companies provide a cost-share for this program.
MnTAP Library
The MnTAP library contains documents and books related to pollution prevention and industry. MnTAP materials DO NOT circulate, but may be used in the library. Please contact MnTAP at 612-624-1300 to set up an appointment to use the library.
Business Site Visits
When answering waste and energy questions at your facility requires more than a quick answer, you may benefit from a site visit. Site visits allow MnTAP staff members to gain a better understanding of your facility's processes in order to identify strategies for improving efficiency and reducing waste and energy.
