The Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance (OEA) protects Minnesota's environment and assures a sustainable economy through waste prevention and resource conservation.
The OEA works to achieve the following outcomes:
Outcome 1: Minnesotans make educated decisions and actions regarding the environment.
Outcome 2: Minnesotans prevent waste and pollution and conserve resources.
Outcome 3: Minnesota's waste is recycled and managed in an environmentally sound manner.
Outcome 4: Minnesota communities are sustainable.
Environmental Education
Through technology, print materials, grants and hands-on activities, the OEA works to educate all ages about the environment. Key resources housed at the OEA include:
The Education Clearinghouse: 3,300 printed references, 150 video titles, displays and computer games. Call 800-877-6300 for more information.
SEEK (Sharing Environmental Education Knowledge): Minnesota's interactive directory of environmental education resources.
Minnesota Environmental Education Advisory Board: A citizen/agency board that guides the direction of environmental education in Minnesota.
Grants
The OEA's Environmental Assistance Grants are used to fund projects which support the office's mission. Environmental education is an important component of the OEA's grants.
Sustainable Communities
Minnesota communities increasingly recognize that their environmental, economic, and social well-being are interconnected. Communities statewide are becoming more environmentally friendly while simultaneously strengthening their economies. OEA assistance also is helping communities to build partnerships between businesses, schools, civic groups and local governments which are necessary in moving towards sustainability.
Other areas of assistance are in: Business, Product Stewardship, Waste Reduction, Local Government, Procurement, Market Development, Pollution Prevention, Recycling and Solid Waste.
