Description:

The Houston Nature Center is located at the eastern end of the Root River Trail in Houston, Minnesota. Our mission is to provide trail users and local people with an on and off-site educational resource which focuses on the unique animals, plants, geology, and other natural features of extreme southeastern Minnesota. Come take a walk through the many acres of wet and dry prairie in the park, meet Alice the Great Horned Owl and hear her story, or just let your fingers do the walking through our hands-on displays of skulls, hides, wings, feet, and more. You'll find a heavy emphasis on owls, thanks to Alice and our International Festival of Owls held annually the first weekend in March. A Natural Playground should be completed by the end of 2013.
