Description:

Eco Education creates opportunities for students to take ownership of environmental issues in their own urban communities and have an experience that allows them to feel empowered to help resolve environmental issues through their own responsible decision making. Its unique model of environmental education blends the best practices from the fields of youth development, school improvement, and service learning. Eco Education's work revolves around providing meaningful experiences for young people to:

  • Understand the urban environment as the interconnectedness of the natural, built, and social environments, particularly how they affect it and are affected by it.
  • Investigate environmental issues relevant to their community by practicing problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Make a positive impact by participating in a community environmental project.
  • Work with, be heard by, and be recognized by adults who care about environmental issues.
