With the ban on outdoor burning and with laws which prohibit the dumping of leaves and grass clippings into landfills, composting and mulching have become attractive alternatives for managing yard waste and recycling natural materials. This 7-page booklet discusses requirements for efficient composting; materials suitable for composting; composting structures (including drawings of each type); locating the compost pile; preparing and maintaining the compost pile; municipal composting as an alternative to home composting; using compost as a soil amendment, a component in potting soils and a mulch; eliminating the need to compost grass clippings through proper lawn management.
