Join our team as a Visitor Experience Associate and help us provide excellence in customer service by greeting visitors and discussing museum content while displaying an approachable demeanor, actively listening, and proactively meeting and exceeding visitor expectations.
This is a seasonal position that will last up to 6 months or less.
Work Environment & Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule including, early morning, evenings and/or weekends based on museum operational needs.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create an exceptional visitor experience by serving as the primary point of contact for visitors to the museum. This includes welcoming visitors, responding to inquiries, providing general museum information, scanning tickets and solving problems.
- Support diversity initiatives across the organization, contributing to a museum environment, and people, that reflect and respond to the diverse needs and cultures of our community (internal and external).
- Provide general upkeep of the museum by ensuring public spaces, such as the galleries and Omnitheater, are clean and reporting maintenance concerns when necessary.
- Monitor and address visitor behavior, ensuring the comfort and safety within public spaces; manage crowds as needed, addressing complaints, offering any solutions you may have available to you, and by consulting appropriate staff
- Maintain familiarity with all museum policies, procedures, schedules, and programs including new films, exhibits, and special events.
- Anticipate, respond to, and follow through on unexpected situations as they arise, ensuring the best possible experience for the visitor.
- Communicate effectively with all staff, including the Visit Team and Team Lead, through personal interaction, email or hand-held radio to ensure all aspects of daily operations are fulfilled and to address any unexpected situations in accordance with museum policies and procedures.
- Report daily interactions and observations using electronic logging (blogging) for each shift completed including successes and shortcomings, visitor feedback, and reporting any problems encountered using computers
- Display and share enthusiasm for science topics covered in museum programs, exhibits and activities.
- Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven customer service experience in retail, hospitality or attraction industries.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent education level preferred.
- Cultural competency and experience working with diverse communities.
- Willingness to be open and respectful of all backgrounds.
- Fluency in language(s) other than English valued (Hmong, Somali, Spanish).
Starting Pay Rate: $11.50 USD per hour / Depending on Qualifications.
