Duties of the Treasurer: We are currently seeking candidates with experience using QuickBooks to assist with and eventually take over the duties of treasurer. This position includes keeping our books and bank accounts up to date, working with the fundraising committee, maintaining the board budget, and preparing and sending checks on time. The ideal candidate has bookkeeping/QuickBooks experience, works well independently, and can meet deadlines. Experience with Environmental Education is not required, but an interest in the environment and conservation would be helpful.
Duties of a board member:
The MAEE board is made up of 10-12 directors. Board members must 18 years of age or older. Each volunteer board member serves a term of two years, with no more than three consecutive terms. Though workloads will vary depending on season and assigned duties, current board members estimate that an average of 5 hours/week is needed to complete their board duties. Duties of a board member include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare for and attend board meetings, held once every other month, plus one two-day board retreat in March or April.
- Attend the annual conference and contribute a silent auction item.
- Help with the annual fund and make a small personal donation to MAEE
- Complete committee work in a timely fashion. Committees include Communications, Events, Advocacy and Equity, Scholarships, and Fundraising.
- Help to recruit new board members based on the current needs of the board.
- Advocate for MAEE and support our mission:
“MAEE supports and advances environmental education (EE) throughout the state to strengthen the role of education as a solution to our pressing environmental and societal challenges.”
The role of a nonprofit board:
The board of directors sets the strategic direction of the organization, manages finances, fundraises for the organization, represents the organization, and monitors and evaluates the activities of the organization.
