Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy empowers individuals and their communities to engage in solutions to climate change. Based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, Climate Generation strategically engages and empowers youth, educators, decision-makers and the public to foster climate literacy and action with the goal of building a more equitable and resilient future for all.

Climate Generation recognizes the complexity of climate change and the importance of  interdisciplinary climate change education. The climate change education program builds educators’ confidence and competence to teach climate change in their educational setting by providing curriculum resources, professional development and ongoing support. Climate Generation’s curriculum resources are aligned to science, social studies, and language arts standards and encourage students to think beyond science alone.  Climate Generation also values Traditional Ecological Knowledge, social justice education, and STEM education.

Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy recruits, employs, trains, compensates and promotes regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status and other protected status as required by law. We actively seek to build and maintain a diverse workforce and foster the leadership of people of color, indigenous people, people from working class backgrounds, women, LGBTQ+, and all people of varying and intersecting identities.

Duties and responsibilities:

The primary purpose of this position is to support the education program in the area of climate change education, particularly developing professional learning experiences for educators in K-12 formal, informal and higher ed connected to Climate Generation’s Teach Climate Network of 7500+ educators.

Program Support (70%)

  • Building from institutional knowledge and/or external experience, research, design, and implement workshops and training for educators – formal & non-formal including the annual Summer Institute for Climate Change Education and our Teach Climate Network
  • Develop, implement, and when appropriate lead programs and projects with community partners, ensuring outcomes are aligned with education program mission and current education practice
  • Work directly with the Climate Change Education Manager to develop a comprehensive annual work plan
  • Support the Climate Change Education Manager in developing a plan to expand and support the Teach Climate Network
  • Collaborate closely with other program teams, specifically Sr. Youth Program Coordinator, Sr. Community Engagement Coordinator and Communications Coordinator, on project specific tasks
  • Lead on Climate Generation’s public presentation offerings and registrations and coordinate with Climate Generation staff and volunteer Climate Ambassadors to fulfill public requests for presentations
  • Supervise an annual, part-time, seasonal Summer Institute/programs support intern

Communications (10%)

  • Support Education in publishing monthly Teach Climate Tips e-newsletter
  • Teach Climate Network marketing to include: creating and executing a plan that includes new and established partnerships, as well as expanding the reach of existing curriculum resources and toolkits in partnership with Education team
  • Market the education program at conferences, through community and organizational calendars and direct contacts and through the development of the monthly educator e-newsletter, Teach Climate Tips

Development (5%)

  • Support Climate Change Education Manager and Senior Director of Programs with grant-writing, donor relations support, and budget management as it relates to programming
  • Manage the Teach Climate Teachers scholarship fund, including tracking scholarships and reviewing applications and communicating spending to Sr. Finance Manager
  • Track and monitor Summer Institute budget, managing for cost containment and maximizing in-kind support
  • Support the the organization with program evaluation and events support

Organizational Engagement & Health (15%)

  • Engage in team functions including events, team meetings, strategic planning, and marketing
  • Collaborate with Sr. Development Coordinator and Sr. Community Engagement Coordinator to co-create and implement a Climate Ambassadors program
  • Collaborate with Organizational Development & Equity Manager, and other colleagues, to ensure that an equity and anti-racism framework is used to develop and deliver all Climate Change Education programs
  • Coordinate with Sr. Development Coordinator on volunteer needs, event logistics, program materials, and vendor relations
  • Support and participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion work across the organization
