WEEKLY HOURS: up to 20 HOURS PER WEEK, except the week of the Talk Climate Gathering where we expect approximately 8 hours per day for three days with a maximum of 40 hours for the week of the event, May 23-25.

Based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, Climate Generation strategically engages and empowers youth, educators, decision-makers, and communities to foster climate literacy and action with the goal of building a more equitable and resilient future for all.

Internship Description
This internship will provide you with experience at a climate mission-driven nonprofit in the field of climate change communication, education, and empowerment. This internship position is critical in the planning and implementation of workshops, trainings, and monthly communications focused on climate justice storytelling. Along with support from your supervisor, special learning activities, and resources, you will gain knowledge and experience in the areas of climate storytelling, climate justice, event planning, and networking. We value the interests and skills of the intern and support you to find opportunities for personal growth and development during the internship. Priority will be given to applicants from diverse, non-white backgrounds.
Duties and responsibilities:
The primary purpose of this position is to support Climate Generation with the following activities:
- Assist with the planning and execution of the virtual Talk Climate Gathering, May 23-25; including outreach, marketing, registration, event logistics, and coordination of event resources (must be available for these dates)
- Support the development of content for the monthly Talk Climate Digest, specifically research on Talk Climate Tips, and other relevant events and articles to include as features
- Assist with planning and execution of short virtual presentations and workshops
Requirements:
- Must have a reliable computer and stable internet connection.
- Must be able to ensure a quiet and conducive virtual work environment during the Talk Climate Gathering dates (May 23-25 2023).
Experience and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Remote work experience is highly preferred.
- Interest in nonprofits, event planning, climate change, environmental studies, communication, education, or a related field.
- Experience in organizing and planning events, and demonstrated ability in carrying out tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- Experience with research and reporting.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work scheduled hours and arrive on time.
- Ability to interact respectfully with diverse groups of people in a variety of settings.
- Personal computer required. Proficient in Apple, MS Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
The intern’s supervisor will work with them to develop personal learning goals and support them in completion. In addition, the intern will gain the following:
- Writing for program communications and partnership building
- Research skills, including search term optimization
- Problem solving, particularly around adapting virtual communication technologies for program needs
- Experience supporting the planning and execution of a large-scale virtual event
- Exposure to the theory of climate storytelling and opportunity to write own climate story
- Creating interactive, virtual programs for education and work environments
- Experience in a dynamic, collaborative, non-profit work environment
