Job Summary
This position has a wide range of responsibilities including river and stream monitoring field work, data management and analysis, support of local partners, and results communication in multiple formats. This position is based out of the Detroit Lakes office.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an Environmental Protection or related field;
OR
Two (2) years of professional-level environmental protection experience.
AND
Ability to manage multiple projects and associated people at different levels of complexity.
Excellent time management skills.
Ability to gain an understanding of watershed, river, and stream processes.
Ability to gain an understanding of water monitoring programs and technology.
Basic computer and database skills.
Effective communication, writing, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to take direction, follow standard operating procedures, manage and prioritize multiple assignments, and work effectively independently and on teams to complete assignments in a timely manner.
Ability to travel up to 40%.
Valid Driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Leadership experience in prior work, civic or school projects.
Familiarity with physical, chemical, and biological indicators of water quality.
Experience doing environmental fieldwork.
Experience and/or course work in statistical and data visualization programs.
Experience and/or course work using GIS.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to perform field work associated with monitoring projects. This will include loading/unloading vehicles with field equipment, working from bridges where traffic may be present, occasional work on frozen rivers when conditions permit, wading in streams, and working on potentially unstable stream banks. Capable of some physical exertion in both summer heat and sun, and winter cold. Work can take place in inclement weather.
Driver's License Requirements
A driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check.
Requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
