TIME COMMITMENT AND SCHEDULE
This position includes one week of staff training (June 3-7) and eleven weeks of summer camp (June 10-August 23). Interns should be available Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm for staff training and 11am-5:30pm for the rest of the summer except for select weeks in August which require an 8am-4pm schedule.
On a typical day, interns will cover educator lunch breaks (11:15am-12:45pm), lead camp activities (12:45 pm-3:30 pm), and supervise aftercare (3:30-5:30pm). In August, each intern will teach at least one full week of camp.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Summer environmental education interns assist education staff in coordinating, preparing, and teaching experiential nature programs for 4-10 year old campers. Primary duties include:
- Develop skills in activity development, program implementation, and behavior management.
- Independently supervise campers during educator lunch and planning breaks.
- Facilitate aftercare with other interns.
- By August, have the ability and confidence to plan and lead a full week of camp.
- Collaborate with other staff and help create a cohesive camp community.
- Maintain a reliable attendance record throughout the summer.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 18 years of age.
- Vaccinated against COVID-19.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR (training will be provided for those who need it).
- Must pass a child care background check and fingerprint screen.
- Prior experience working with children is preferred.
- History of commitment, reliability, and flexibility in other positions.
- Knowledge of and/or interest in Wisconsin natural history is a plus.
- Ability to maintain sight and sound supervision of campers at all times.
- Ability to work outside in all summer weather conditions.
- Positive and open attitude.
COMPENSATION
- $1000/month stipend
- Room and board not provided.
