Job Description

ALNC is a non-profit educational organization guided by Aldo Leopold’s land ethic, with a mission to engage and educate current and future generations, empowering them to respect, protect, and enjoy the natural world. ALNC serves more than 50,000 children, teachers, members, and families annually through year-round programming that includes field trips, camps, a nature preschool, and public and private events.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Mandatory staff training schedule (June 6-10): 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Summer schedule (June 13-August 26): 11am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday
  • Compensation: $900/month stipend, plus certification in First Aid/CPR. Room and board not provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist education staff in coordinating, preparing, and teaching summer camp programs for children ages 4-10.
  • Develop and facilitate hands-on activities for campers.
  • Follow and enforce all camp policies, including covid safety protocols.
  • Supervise After Care from 3:30-5:30pm

SAMPLE SCHEDULE

  • Cover Environmental Educator lunch breaks: 11am-1pm
  • Assist Environmental Educators, cover environmental educator planning time and plan camper activities: 1-3:30pm
  • Supervise After Care from 3:30-5:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in Wisconsin natural history is a plus.
  • Demonstrated history of commitment, reliability, and flexibility in other positions.
  • A cheerful, positive, and open attitude. 

OPPORTUNITIES

  • Gain direct experience in program development and implementation.
  • Participate in a highly successful, hands-on summer camp program.
  • Learn about Wisconsin’s natural history and Aldo Leopold’s land ethic first-hand.
  • Receive 2-year certification in Standard First Aid and Adult/Child CPR.
