Join our Kitty Andersen Youth Science Center (KAYSC) as a STEM Justice Track Coordinator and provide support for Youth Crew managers around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Justice youth programming within the KAYSC. This position will support curriculum and assessment work, community outreach and career development for youth workers under the direction of their appropriate manager; and helps facilitate the delivery of youth development programs, including working with youth families, internal museum departments and external vendors and/or partners.
Work Environment: Will be working primarily in the KAYSC with occasional field trips and external meetings. Work schedule involves evenings, weekends and occasional staff meetings during weekdays. Must be able to transport self for work activities.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Partner with the KAYSC to coordinate track-specific curriculum, community outreach, and career development activities. These activities may include preparing meetings and activity schedules, confirming guest speakers/presenters and making field trip arrangements.
- Document attendance, program activities, STEM Justice curriculum and prepare various reports. Assist with record-keeping, evaluation of the program and other documentation as needed.
- Support managers with curriculum development and research.
- Support managers with youth supervision and programming facilitation, such as co-facilitating reflection and debriefs, presenting STEM Justice programming, supervising crew activities and running team builders.
- Manage crew outreach, communications, and branding under the direction of the manager. Manage team web-presence and social media to ensure effective internal and external communications.
- Coordinate, create and maintain relationships with community partners by attending meetings and keeping communication. Help to maintain KAYSC community partner databases with updated partner information & coordinate communication about crew events and activities to partners as necessary.
- Develop authentic relationships with both youth and their families that include clear and consistent communication regarding both the youth and parent/guardian’s experience and expectations.
- Incorporate knowledge of the KAYSC mission-its target populations, and youth development best practices to model effective behaviors and values for youth participants.
- Attend and seek out STEM and youth development trainings that support the work of the high school program.
- Represent KAYSC and the museum at external and internal meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with a range of diverse communities, including youth development, past community outreach/engagement work, mentoring, or related roles supporting positive youth development.
- Ability to utilize all aspects of technology, including computer hardware and software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with STEM-related career development activities.
- Cultural competency and experience working with diverse communities.
- Willingness to be open and respectful of all backgrounds.
- Fluency in language(s) other than English valued (Hmong, Somali, Spanish).
Hiring Pay Range: $12.00 – 14.00+ hourly / Depending on Qualifications.
