CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal Technician
SALARY RANGE: $14.50-$15.50/hr DOQ HOURS: up to 40-hours per week. Requires some evening and weekends.
STATUS: Seasonal, non-exempt TERM: Spring-Fall, 2020. Flexible start and end dates.
The Washington Conservation District (WCD) seeks a self-motivated individual to assist with the monitoring and maintenance of stormwater and habitat best management practices (BMPs).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
1. Maintenance of BMPs, including weeding, mulching, planting, sediment removal, herbicide application, and vegetation trimming.
2. Provide support for installation of stormwater management and other BMP projects.
3. Provide support monitoring past projects for functionality and update BMP database.
4. Assist with other WCD programs as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will possess, or be actively pursuing a biology, natural resources, or related degree. Documented interest or experience with stormwater BMPs (e.g. rain gardens) or landscape restoration (e.g. prairies). Plant identification skills. Applicants must be a hard worker, self-motivated, able to show a commitment to high quality work, dedicated to completing projects on schedule, and be able to work independently. Effective communication skills are critical. Good computer skills are needed. Must have valid driver's license, good driving record, and personal vehicle available for use.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with landscaping and landscape maintenance, including towing trailers. Experience installing or maintaining native plant communities and BMPs. Native plant community identification and knowledge. Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and image processing programs. Public education and presentation experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves mostly outside field work (90%). Frequent position changes; lifting, pushing, and pulling requirement more than 50 pounds on a regular basis; exposures not limited to heat, cold, and wet conditions; and use of the senses of sight and smell are necessary in this work. Equipment used include, but not limited to, landscaping equipment, dump trailers, large pick-ups, and computers/tablets.
SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Finalists for the interview process will be determined after initial screening and assessment of relevant qualifications and experience. Applicant(s) selected for the interview process will be contacted directly by the Washington Conservation District.
