SEASONAL AIS WATERCRAFT INSPECTOR POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
LOCATION: Washington Conservation District - Oakdale, MN
CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal Technician – Up to twelve vacancies are available
SALARY RANGE: $15-$18/hr DOQ
BENEFITS: Performance based bonus available (up to $500), plus enhanced sick and safe leave
HOURS: Up to 40-hours per week – Requires early morning, evening, and weekend work
STATUS: Seasonal, non-exempt
TERM: Boating Season 2024
The Washington Conservation District (WCD) in collaboration with Washington County and other partners
seeks self-motivated individuals to provide watercraft inspections to prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive
Species (AIS) in beautiful Washington County, Minnesota. Earn an income while helping the environment and
enjoying the outdoors!
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Attends and completes DNR training to become an authorized Level 1 inspector
• Interviews watercraft owners and performs watercraft inspections at assigned inspection stations
• Educates launch users about the importance of AIS prevention
• Maintains daily inspection reports and data entry
• Performs light access maintenance during slow boat use periods
• Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will possess a high school diploma or GED. Must have
previous work experience. Must be proficient in verbal and written skills and possess the ability to work
independently. Must have good computer skills. Must have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle
available for use.
RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS: Highly qualified applicants will possess, or be actively pursuing, an
associate’s/bachelor’s degree or have two years of relevant experience in communications, education, law
enforcement, biology, water resources, soil science, or related natural resources field. Previous customer
service experience and/or working with the public preferred. The WCD seeks to broaden its workforce and
encourages applicants of all backgrounds who are interested in this position to apply!
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves mostly outside field work (95%). Long periods of standing and sitting;
lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds required on an infrequent basis; may be exposed to hot, cold, and
wet conditions. Use of the senses of sight and touch are necessary in this work.
SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Finalists for the interview process will be determined after screening and review
of relevant qualifications and experience. Applicant(s) selected for the interview process will be contacted
directly by the Washington Conservation District.
