Program Coordinator - Community Engagement

Annual Salary Range: $61,457 - $91,277

Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy (R&E) is seeking a program coordinator to provide professional community engagement planning and implementation, and communications support for Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy. This position will work closely with R&E staff, Ramsey County and Washington County staff, and R&E consultants to inform the programs and activities of the Recycling & Energy Center and the counties’ joint activities programs.

R&E is a joint powers entity formed by Ramsey and Washington Counties. R&E coordinates recycling and waste programs between the two counties (joint activities), and owns and operates the Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy Center in Newport Minnesota (www.morevaluelesstrash.com).

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, self-directed professional with strong interpersonal skills and an understanding and appreciation of the background work necessary to make waste and recycling programs a success.  Knowledge of the solid waste system in the East Metro area and county solid waste master plans for waste management is important in being able to carry out this work.

This is professional work, primarily in these areas:

  1.    Collaborate with staff from Ramsey County, Washington County, and R&E on community engagement and communications activities.
  2.    Develop community engagement plans for R&E Center and all R&E joint activities that will effectively build strategic relationships, identify new partners, build awareness on R&E work, and collect data/information that will inform programming. Implement these engagement plans by collaborating with R&E staff, county staff, and consultants. Coordinate all engagement work and maintain plan information on ongoing basis.
  3.    Develop strategies to engage and educate target audiences on the role of R&E in the waste management system. Collaborate with team working on R&E curriculum and tour room design. Develop strategies for recruiting target audiences for tours and events. Give tours of R&E Center and train other staff to provide tours. Represent R&E at community events and other opportunities for raising awareness on R&E’s role in waste management system.
  4.    Design and implement community engagement projects to build strategic relationships and identify essential resources for improving waste reduction and recycling efforts. Closely collaborate with target audiences that may include colleges, institutions, cultural communities, food waste reduction and recovery stakeholders, and more.
  5.    Provide support for R&E digital communications by creating, reviewing, and updating content for websites and social media.
  6.    Develop content for County and R&E communications outlets. Create articles, newsletters, blog posts, success stories, videos, and more to raise awareness on the work of R&E.
  7.    Provide communications support for BizRecycling by creating articles, newsletters, blog posts, success stories, videos, and more.
  8.    Coordinate and promote consistent messaging on food waste prevention and food recovery efforts by creating content, developing best practices, analyzing opportunities, and collaborating with R&E staff, County staff, contractors, and consultants.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in an environmental field, community engagement, communications, behavioral sciences, marketing, education, business administration, public administration or a closely related field.

Experience: Four years’ experience in community engagement, community organizing, education, communications, outreach, program coordination, project management, public sector service delivery or a closely related field.  Preference given for relative experience in solid waste management and environmental fields.

Substitution: Post high school education and four additional years of relevant work experience can substitute for a bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree in any of the above fields may be substituted for two years of required experience.
