Job Summary
The DNR is seeking to fill one (1) temporary, part-time (50%) Outreach Event Student Worker position at our central office in Saint Paul, MN. The anticipated dates for this position are from approximately March 2024 through January 2025. This position will work Monday- Friday and between 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. During the school year, these positions may work up to four days per week, depending on the student's class schedule.
This position exists to support the planning, coordination and execution of statewide hunting, fishing, and related outdoor recreation events for the Division of Fish and Wildlife; including providing event coordination support for Governor’s opener events, coordinating DNR staff and partner involvement and attendance; assisting with event registration; identifying and coordinating the development of event-specific marketing materials and displays; and assisting with the analysis and reporting of event impacts. This position will work in close coordination with the FAW Events Coordinator.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide logistical support for Fish and Wildlife Division events, with a primary focus on Governor’s annual fishing and hunting opener events: work in close collaboration with the FAW events coordinator to prepare for and implement events; coordinate DNR staff and partner involvement and attendance; and analyze and report on event impacts.
- Provide logistical support for existing and new outreach events for the Division of Fish & Wildlife in partnership with other organizations, which provide opportunities for youth and adults to increase their awareness of hunting, fishing and outdoor activities and build on their existing interest in hunting, fishing, and outdoor pursuits.
- Other duties to be determined and assigned by management for the benefit of the Department and Minnesotans.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. As a student you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program. If a student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.
- Completion of 1 year of post-secondary education in Biology, Fisheries, Wildlife, Education, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Natural Resources, or closely related field.
- Excellent communication skills sufficient to clearly communicate expectations, maintain professional relationships with fishing and hunting organizations, community groups, and volunteers while representing the position and Division in a professional, efficient manner.
- Organizational skills sufficient to prioritize a diverse workload and adjust to changing priorities.
- Knowledge of outreach education techniques and strategies sufficient to coordinate large groups, drafting meeting agendas, and take concise and accurate meeting notes.
- Planning skills sufficient to coordinate, plan and prepare for and implement events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of database management and digital tools sufficient to track event logistics and outcomes.
- Experience developing and implementing outreach events and programs.
