ABOUT 10 ACRE WOOD NATURE PRESCHOOL 10 Acre Wood Nature Preschool, LLC is a play- and nature-based preschool located in Lakeville, Minnesota. We currently are licensed to have 10 spots at our school, with full-time and part-time enrollment options. We welcome children aged 33 mos through kindergarten. We have a student to teacher ratio of 5:1. Our school is situated on 10 acres of not only wood but wetland and native prairie as well! School is run out of an environmentally-friendly converted pole barn and we are dedicated to teaching children how to be great environmental stewards.
Our school mission at 10 Acre Wood is to foster the next generation to become empathetic, considerate and knowledgeable and eco-conscious citizens through role modeling and immersion in nature.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees the implementation of nature-based preschool curriculum. Provides developmentally appropriate play in both outdoor and classroom environments. Evaluates and makes recommendations for improvement, as needed. Actively participates in long- and short-term planning. Nurture individual needs of children while managing whole group experiences and unstructured play. Ensures the health, safety and well-being of students through site surveys and daily check-ins with students;
Implements on-going evaluation methods designed to aid in the creation of individualized growth plans for each student that can be shared with parents; documents the learning and development that occurs in the classroom using a variety of methods for both internal and external use; and maintains clear communications with fellow co-teacher and substitute teachers.
Document learning progress in many formats (written documentation, photos, content for Brightwheel, etc.). Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public.
Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel. Updates and enhances own knowledge by involvement in continuing education for professional growth (i.e., attends relevant conferences, seminars, in-service trainings, and certification programs)
Performs related duties as assigned or apparent, such as daily cleaning and sanitization of the indoor classroom. Other duties that support families, children, and/or staff in the program may be also assigned.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALITIES
Experience in early childhood education and/or outdoor/nature education programs preferred, but not required
Love of children, love of learning, love of nature
Patient, compassionate disposition
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.
Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
Must have current CPR and First-Aid certification or be willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Must pass state of MN background check
Must be willing to complete yearly required trainings required by state of MN to maintain proper licensure certifications.
SALARY AND SCHEDULE Compensation starts at $17/hr DOQ. Normal schedule is 2 days a week either 8-4:30p or 9-5:30p. We currently have the flexibility for this position to choose their days and desired shift (will be the same set 2 days each week).
