Chik-Wauk Nature Center Program Director 2024
Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge and experiences of natural science with individuals of all ages?
The Gunflint Trail Historical Society is seeking an energetic individual to join the staff at Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center as the Nature Center Program Director.
The position is five days a week and is compensated on an hourly basis. Wage is based on a 40-hour work week during the season (Memorial weekend through Labor Day including weekends).
Pay range: $15.00-$19.00 per hour depending on education and experience.
Housing provided; a comfortable 3-bedroom private furnished home with shared kitchen facilities, Wi-Fi, laundry, patio deck area, utilities, and access to nearby BWCAW entry points.
Responsibilities
• Utilizing the existing Nature Center activity curriculum, interact with Nature Center visitors initiating both indoor and outdoor activities.
• Develop and implement naturalist programs and educational activities for all ages.
• Training and oversight of Nature Center volunteers
• Provide information to visitors.
• Daily cleaning of the Nature Center interior, including floors and surfaces
• Assist with special events.
• Plan and schedule public programming
• Work with the Campus Director to promote and market naturalist activities.
• Experienced with a variety of social media.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
This position requires flexibility, self-direction, creative thinking, and an enjoyment of working with the general public.
A successful candidate
• Be a regular, independent, and organized employee.
• Outgoing and energetic personality
• Possesses knowledge and experience in natural sciences and environmental education.
• Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Be a team member with staff and volunteers.
Applicants with familiarity of the Gunflint Trail history and an appreciation and knowledge of North Woods biology and ecology will be given priority in the selection process.
The Gunflint Trail Historical Society is a 501 © 3 non-profit organization. Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center is a partnership of the Gunflint Trail Historical Society and Superior National Forest, Gunflint Ranger District.
