SUMMARY:
Responsible to lead, develop and implement management plans to preserve and protect natural resources. Advises and provides technical guidance to other MPRB departments on natural resources issues and in the planning of MPRB projects in a manner that is consistent with the MPRB mission, values, goals, and comprehensive plan. What You'll Do
- Responsible to plan and ensure development, implementation and evaluation of management plans to preserve and protect natural resources and to meet the goals of the Environmental Management department and needs of the MPRB and community.
- Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, develop and discipline employees for development of a professional and support staff with a high degree of competence and sound judgment.
- Set quality standards and protocols for natural resources staff and provide guidance and leadership in motivating, developing and maintaining effective work teams.
- Develop annual natural resources budget and individual special funded project budgets, prepare reports and provide up to date information on current spending and end of year forecasts.
- Coordinate purchasing and contracting for natural resources management projects; this includes developing bid specifications and preparing bids, analyzing bid submissions, selecting vendors and placing orders.
- Coordinate involvement of Natural Resources staff in natural resources based educational and training programs for MPRB’s youth employment and training initiatives.
- Develop project timelines, tracks project progress and order equipment, chemicals and materials as required.
- Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.
What To Bring
Need to Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management or related field.
- Increasingly responsible experience in natural resources management or related work: at least five (5) years
- Experience supervising others: at least three (3) years.
- Experience with GIS and/or other mapping/analytical software through work experience: at least two (2) years
- Valid driver’s license
- Pesticide applicator license (obtain within 6 months of hire)
- MN DNR Wildfire Certification (obtain within 6 months of hire)
Nice to Have:
- Experience supervising union employees: at least one (1) year (preferred).

Work is performed both outdoors and in a normal office environment with extended periods of time on a computer. Outdoor work in all weather conditions is performed as needed. May be required to work alternate work schedule including evenings and weekends as needed for meetings and events.

- Data gathering and compilations using GPS and ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online.
