General Description

Under the supervision of the Kids & Co Coordinator, Lead Teachers are supporting center goals of providing professional, quality care in a warm, nurturing, and inclusive environment that meets each student’s developmental needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support a culture and environment to achieve and maintain a 4-Star Parent Aware rating.
  • Maximize utilization of the center resources to achieve center goals and support the cognitive, physical, social-emotional and language development, as well as early literacy, outdoor and environmental education and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) skills.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of growth and child development to make the center a warm and accepting place for young students.
  • Help to create lesson plans for each day, along with activities for small and large group experiences.
  • Maintain class ratios and layouts pursuant to DHS certified center rules, Parent Aware and center standards.
  • Ensure students are supervised at all times.
  • Establish a good rapport with parents/guardians, staff, and students.
  • Welcome parents and students into the program, keep documentation updated in ELEYO (online database), update parents about the student’s activities and
    performance.
  • Continue professional growth; keep in-service and training records up to date; attend and participate at staff meetings, in-services, and workshop courses.
  • Keep accurate records
  • Be flexible and willing to assist where needed, supporting coworkers and center needs.
  • Share in the upkeep and maintenance of the center.
  • Timely and consistent attendance to complete all job duties

Educational requirements

  • Maintain skill and knowledge in health, safety and emergency requirements for DHS Certified Child Care Centers;
  • Must be at least 18 years old;
  • Must meet Assistant Teacher requirements of Rule 3 (Rule 9503.0033).

  • Maintain a positive attitude towards self, students, staff, and parents/ guardians.
  • Policies and Procedures: Know, follow, and enforce center policies and procedures, including safety protocols.
  • Uphold professionalism, integrity and ethical behavior.
  • Positive Work Environment: Build and foster positive coworker attitudes and morale. Develop and promote positive and respectful co-worker relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Intercultural Competency and Inclusiveness: Display sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural and other differences in others.
  • Maintain and support an inclusive work environment free from bullying, discrimination, and harassment.

Physical Demands

This position works both in the classroom and outdoors for long periods of time and involves standing, sitting, bending, squatting, getting up/down from the floor, and lifting of at least forty pounds.
