Job Description

Based at Wargo Nature Center, the Interpretive Naturalist leads a variety of programs and events for all ages. If you have a passion for environmental education, school-based presentations, and living history demonstrations, this position offers a great opportunity for creativity and direct interaction with the public. The Interpretive Naturalist plays a key role in promoting the Anoka County Park system which offers over 11,500 acres of open space including regional and county parks, special use facilities, and a unique mix of recreational opportunities.

  • Salary: $19.67 to $20.26 per hour.
  • Average 29 hours per week
  • 24 days of paid Flexible Time Off and up to 11.5 paid holidays, pro-rated based on part-time status.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, science, or related field.
  • 6 months (1,040 hours) of experience in developing and delivering environmental education and recreational programs at either residential or day use environmental education centers.
  • 6 months (1,040 hour) experience in day camp programming.
  • Work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Successfully pass a criminal history and driver's license background check.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities needed:

  • Environmental education and recreational program development.
  • Outdoor recreational activities such as such as kayaking, canoeing, team building and cross country skiing.
  • Creating indoor and outdoor displays.
  • Working with diverse groups of people.
  • Organize projects and displays.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Keep detailed records.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
