TITLE: Growing Good Facilitator: Growing to Lead PICA Head Start Garden Project (1 position)
SUPERVISOR: Manager of Youth Education
CLASSIFICATION: Temp Casual TACE 67 day appointment 0001
WORK SCHEDULE: Start May 16, 2022 End August 31, 2022. 36 hours/week for 11 weeks (396

OVERVIEW:
The PICA Headstart Garden Project Facilitator will facilitate a team of 3 teenage Youth interns in
the planning, development, and implementation of a three experience summer garden project
with 6 PICA head start summer program classes. The Facilitator will coordinate with PICA
Building Leaders and Classroom teachers to create an activity schedule, orient Youth interns to
PICA, and the Headstart audience they will be working with. The Facilitator will also coordinate
with Arboretum youth educators to identify garden activities and best practices to plan for the
garden lessons. The successful facilitator will lead an energetic team of youth to plan and
present engaging hands-on garden lessons with six PICA Headstart summer classes.

JOB DESCRIPTION
78% Direct Facilitation of Youth Team Work Days (average 28 hours/week):
● Set the stage for success for a team of three Youth Interns to develop and present three
garden experiences with Head Start summer classes.
● Facilitate each youth team work day.
22% Project Planning, Coordination, Documentation (average 8 hours/week):
● Attend weekly team meetings with Growing Good team, and weekly check-in meetings
with the Youth Education Manager.
● Document results and impacts of program through weekly reports using photo, video,
testimonial from youth interns and garden participants.
● Cultivate relationships with PICA administration and participating teachers to develop
schedule and logistics.
● Contribute to the project report and project evaluation
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● Passion, skill and experience working with teenagers or youth in formal and/or
non-formal education setting
● Successful completion of mandatory background check
● Drivers license and ability to drive a minivan
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● Experience and interest in plants and gardens
● Experience with children age 4-5 years
● Experience working in diverse urban communities
● College coursework in horticulture, education, youth development or related field
● Experience with project coordination
● Experience working in partnership projects

Training Week: June 7, 8, 9
Youth Orientation Day: June 11
Regular summer schedule: Monday (admin/planning), Tuesday-Friday youth workdays

Total hours for this position: Not to exceed 396 hours 36 hours/wk for 11 weeks.
