Minnesota Trout Unlimited is looking for a talented and self-motivated individual who will be responsible for conducting components of MNTU’s environmental/outdoor education program, “Connecting Students with Water Stewardship through Hands-on Learning”.
Job Description: Work closely with MNTU's education team to lead ice fishing programs throughout the metro area with the public and MN Trout in the Classroom students. Assist with fly tying, winter ecology, and possibly virtual lessons. The purpose of these programs is to provide youth and their families with engaging, fun, and educational fishing opportunities within their local communities and watersheds. Programs are scheduled during weekdays and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and assist with fun, positive, and experiential ice fishing skills programs.
- Represent MNTU at fishing related community events.
- Build upon existing partnerships and create new ones with like-minded organizations, working to plan, coordinate, and market fishing skills.
- Perform materials/equipment inventory and maintenance.
- Take pictures at programs and events for social media.
- Perform additional job-related duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, outdoor recreation, natural sciences, or related field. Students with a focus in these areas and applicable experience may apply.
- Experience implementing environmental education and/or outdoor recreation programs with youth and families in a variety of settings.
- Personal and/or instructional level ice fishing experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills.
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours and weekends as needed.
- Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to be flexible, work independently, and multi-task.
- Team player with a positive attitude and sense of humor
- Fluency in microsoft office and google drive suite of applications.
- Possess a reliable mode of transportation able to perform job-related duties.
- Willingness to travel to various locations throughout the Twin Cities metro area.
- Has a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Minnesota fish habitat, ecology and watersheds.
Compensation This is an independent contractor position which pays $15.00 per hour. There is no paid overtime, as it is “exempt” from overtime requirements. The contract will authorize a maximum number of 150 hours from January 1st, 2021 through February 28th, 2021. Hours per week will vary depending on programming needs, with an average of 18 hours per week. Mileage reimbursement will be offered at the 2021 federal rate of 56 cents per mile.
