Join our Explore Store team as a Sales Clerk and help provide excellent customer service within our retail gift shop by assisting visitors, ringing up merchandise and answering questions about the Museum. The gift shop offers merchandise that helps our visitors to continue learning.
Work Environment: High traffic museum gift shop including peak season with 2,000+ school group visitors per day. Open availability during weekdays and weekends, including nights and holidays.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist visitors with a wide variety of store-related and general museum questions through courteous, helpful, and pleasant customer service.
- Learn and use standard point-of-sale (POS) software and process merchandise sales, returns and exchanges.
- Accurate cash-handling, payment acceptance, and accountability.
- Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
- Post daily sales and credit card reports.
- Replenish merchandise levels from stockroom inventory, stock shelves and mark prices on items.
- Assist with inventory receiving.
- Maintain store appearance by straightening, cleaning, and dusting as needed.
- Participate in annual inventory event.
- General knowledge of current museum exhibits, shows, and programs.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven cash-handling experience.
- Documented customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Retail and/or hospitality experience.
- Cultural competency and experience working with diverse communities.
- Willingness to be open and respectful of all backgrounds.
- Fluency in language(s) other than English valued (Hmong, Somali, Spanish).
Starting Pay Rate: $11.50 or more per hour / Depending on Qualifications.
