Join our Explore Store team as a Lead Sales Clerk and be responsible for providing day-to-day support within the retail gift shop.  This position assists in providing work direction to a team of sales staff as well as performing the daily functions of the store.

Work Environment: High traffic museum gift shop including peak season with 2,000+ school group visitors per day. Open availability during weekdays and weekends, including nights and holidays.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create an outstanding customer experience by answering a wide variety of store-related and general museum questions to museum visitors.
  • Learn and use standard point-of-sale (POS) software and process merchandise sales, returns and exchanges.
  • Accurate cash handling, payment acceptance and accountability.
  • Provide work direction and training to the sales clerk team ensuring day to day operations of the store are completed.
  • Process shift reporting and deposits.
  • Maintain store appearance by replenishing floor merchandise as needed, straightening, cleaning and dusting.
  • Support inventory management including receiving inventory and assisting in the annual inventory, typically the end of June.
  • General knowledge of current museum exhibits, shows, and programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to provide work direction to a team.
  • Proven cash-handling experience.
  • Documented customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Retail and/or hospitality experience.
  • Cultural competency and experience working with diverse communities.
  • Willingness to be open and respectful of all backgrounds.
  • Fluency in language(s) other than English valued (Hmong, Somali, Spanish).

Hiring Pay Range: $13.50 or more per hour / Depending on Qualifications.
