Join our Museum Experiences team as an Experience Design Intern. Experience Design interns assist the Science Museum of Minnesota experience design team in creating exemplary museum experiences, while gaining valuable experience in the unique field of museum experience design.
Work Environment: Open office environment.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Help create digital and physical assets of museum experiences for use as a tool to present, evaluate, and modify based on project team needs. These assets include, but are not limited to, digital and physical 3D models, floor plans, concept sketches, technical draftings, and graphic design elements.
- Manage digital assets across multiple projects using file structures, version control systems, databases, and cloud-based storage systems.
- Participate in project team discussions on exhibits, and offer creative ideas and design suggestions for exhibit experiences.
- Understand and advocate for universal accessibility in the design of exhibit experiences.
- Prioritize work to ensure that the workflow is efficient and in line with the project's goals and within the scope of the project team.
- Work with the design team in seeking out new and emerging techniques to help assess the viability of their use in exhibit experiences.
- Understand and promote the value that the visitor is the ultimate client for the work of the project team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled in secondary education program in the design field, Graphic Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Technical Design, Theatrical Design or closely related field.
- Demonstrate some proficiency in 3D and/or 2D design software such as AutoCad, Sketchup, Revit, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Demonstrate some knowledge of industry standard technologies and techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Curiosity towards the scientific endeavor desired.
- Cultural competency and experience working with diverse communities.
- Willingness to be open and respectful of all backgrounds.
- Fluency in language(s) other than English valued (Hmong, Somali, Spanish).
Starting Pay Rate: $15.00+ hourly / Depending on Qualifications.
